What Diabetic Weight Loss Diet Options Are There?

October 16th, 2009 -- Posted in healthy eating, healthy living | 1 Comment »

Trying to find a good diabetic weight loss diet is not always easy; however, there are certain options that are proven to be more effective than others. Here is a brief precis of each, which you may well find suited to you.

Diabetic Food Exchange Diet

The Diabetic Food Exchange Diet is a plan often prescribed by doctors. It works by grouping similar food types together, and each list advises when is best to eat it and how big a portion should be consumed.

When on this plan, it is vital that a regular schedule is kept to, and the measuring of portions is also key.

Atkins Diabetic Diet

The Atkins Diabetic Diet is described through a series of books. These offer targeted meal plans, which steadily increase the amount of carbohydrates allowed in any one day. However, for many the plan doesn’t allow for a great deal of freedom.

Whilst issues are often raised regards this diabetic weight loss diet, there are an equal number of people claiming its success.

Medifast Diabetic Diet Plan

The Medifast Diabetic Diet Plan claims that its use can result in a loss of 20 pounds over a 30 day period. A simple plan; a dieter chooses 5 items to eat each day from prepackaged meals, and/or their “lean and green” make your own recipes.

This has been extremely effective for many people, and does allow greater freedom than other plans. However, it can be open to confusion regards the make your own aspect.

Diabetic Food Pyramid

The Diabetic Food Pyramid is similar, in many ways, to the food exchange diet. Foods are still broken down into groups; though portion control is easier as each type is clearly defined in a pyramid structure; regards the amount, or number, of portions allowed.

Again, weight loss and diabetic concerns are well controlled in most cases; if adherence to the rules of the structure is maintained.

All of these diabetic weight loss plans have proven effective, but it will take work and commitment from the sufferer to take effect.

Best weight loss diet for busy vegetarian mom?

October 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in vegetarian weight loss diet | 9 Comments »

I am a busy young mom with 3 kids, ages 3, 2, and 4 months. I have gained a lot of weight in my pregnancies and would like to lose about 80 pounds. I want to lose it slowly and healthfully. I do not have the time or money to join a gym, and do not have the child care. Also, I can not afford to buy any exercise equipment or expensive pills/gadgets etc. What are some healthy diet plans that are vegetarian friendly, and what are good exercises for targeting belly fat. PS-I do not need to hear "eat less exercise more." I need specific routines and referrals to eating plans that work for my lifestyle. I also need to know what kind of exercises to do and when/how to do them, plus some healthy foods that will satisfy my sweet tooth. Thanks!
I forgot to say that I am also allergic to wheat.

Im writing a healthy eating article?

October 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in healthy eating articles | 1 Comment »

Im doing a project in language arts and me and my group have to make a magazine. So Im in charge of making a section about healthy living. Ive done an article about fitting healthy habits in your schedule, Ive done one on a true story on a girl that was extremely obese and lost the weight. Now I have to make one on the whole controversy over how some people think that its mcdonalds fault for obesity.

I think its the choice to eat there that makes them fat…. but not the point. I was wondering if there are some certain facts I should put in now or if i should include something on that page to make it more catchy? The question doesnt make much sense but its kinda hard for me to explain.

Hi, i dont know the facts, but here you may find articles with pictures about healthy living, eating habits, american diets and similar stuff. I believe it could help you on the whole matter. http://www.jurgita.com/articles.php Also you may submit your article in the same category if you are interested in some critique or just publishing it on the net. If you will collect many useful information, than it should be accessible for many people :) Anyway, good luck with your writing.

What is a prescribed diet for a post-cerebrovascular accident / stroke patient?

October 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in diet stroke | 1 Comment »

like what specific nutrients they really need to recover or prevent reccurrence of stroke…

You may be eating plenty of food, but your body may not be getting the nutrients it needs to be healthy. Nutrient-rich foods have vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients but are lower in calories. To get the nutrients you need, choose foods like vegetables, fruits, whole-grain products and fat-free or low-fat dairy products most often. more

Vegetables and fruits are high in vitamins, minerals and fiber — and they’re low in calories. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables may help you control your weight and your blood pressure.

Unrefined whole-grain foods contain fiber that can help lower your blood cholesterol and help you feel full, which may help you manage your weight.

Eat fish at least twice a week. Recent research shows that eating oily fish containing omega-3 fatty acids (for example, salmon, trout, and herring) may help lower your risk of death from coronary artery disease.

Anybody out there controlling Rheumatoid Arthritis with diet alone?

October 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in diet for rheumatoid arthritis | 7 Comments »

I’ve read a couple instances on the internet where people have gone into remission using food alone. I’m just wondering if anyone else out there has been able to do this. If you have, can you leave a way for me to contact you? I’d be much obliged.

I can’t have drugs as I am allergic to them, and so have to control my RA and I have OA and osteoarthritis with food and diet also I use aromatherapy, massage, healing etc.

I then qualfied in complementary medicine and though I have had RA and OA since 1982, when it was first diagnosed I am not too badly deformed.

I do have a lot of trouble walking and am in pain a lot but as I have said I can’t have drugs only half a paracetamol every four hours at the most.

If you would like to email me I will send details and help where I can.

Is there a good Weight-Loss Diet program for Type I Diabetics?

October 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in diabetic weight loss diet | 4 Comments »

I am a 23-year-old Type I diabetic, and though not overweight, I would like to lose a few unneeded pounds. As you may know, the use of insulin often negates weight-loss efforts, and I have struggled for some time now to get back to my "ideal" weight. If anyone can recommend a good diet program or even throw out some suggestions of how to combat this problem, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Even type 2s on insulin have a very hard time keeping unwanted pounds off. I was the original skinny minny when the doctor decided I needed to take insulin injections along with my oral meds.

I follow the South Beach phase 2 food plan. I follow it pretty religiously too. and have for the best part of 10 years because it is very low carb and you can tailor it to fit your needs.

Contrary to popular opinion, it and Atkins are NOT high fat or high protein food plans!!! They have sensible serving sizes and the choice of foods is great. You do not HAVE to buy specialty foods on either one.

If you eat sufficient saturated fats and sufficient protein, you will be fuller faster so more sated and not want or need as much of the carb stuff.

This study was with type 2 people, but same works for type 1.

And this is from Livin LaVida Low Carb blog:

Just count carbs very carefully, medicate only enough, and get movin!!!

congestive heart failure from retaining water?

October 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in congestive heart failure diet | 10 Comments »

How do I keep someone with congestive heart failure from retaining water? We follow a low salt diet, take lasix and potassium.

Your question: "How do I keep someone with congestive heart failure from retaining water…?"

When you say, "how do I…" that is, meaning you?

Well, you go to medical school, finish your residency, and do a fellowship in cardiology, become board certified, then examine the patient. Based on your education and experience, you treat the patient accordingly. Reevaluate the patient every few months just in case the condition changed.

Failing that, you find a board certified cardiologist, and have him or her examine the patient. Based on his or her education and experience, they will treat the patient accordingly. They will reevaluate the patient every few months just in case the condition changed.

I’m not trying to insult you, but rather to make you realize the depth of the question that you’re trying to ask. The other respondents are indeed right. You need to bring the patient to a qualified doctor and do all your question asking there. Its one thing to get on the internet and ask about the side effects of medications; its quite another to solicit treatment modalities. That is something that only the patient’s doctor is qualified to answer.

Good luck.
