Simple Steps to Healthy Living

Healthy living is very important for your well-being. Unfortunately many of us forget this important fact and let our health go down due to negligence. Despite our busy lifestyles it is still possible to take care of yourself.

Fast foods and junk food: With our hectic, fast paced lifestyles we have become very dependent on fast foods and quick junk food snacks. This is affecting not only our own well-being but also that of our children.

There are more overweight children than ever before and this is largely due to these foods. If possible try to reduce this fast food habit for yourself and especially for your kids. Also try to eat alternative snacks, instead of sodas, candies and chips try eating fruit snacks and drinking more water.

In order to get back to a healthy living style we need to turn our eating habits around. We can do this by eating a well-balanced natural diet. This includes fruit, vegetables and whole grain foods. Try to eat less processed and refined foods and choose those with higher fiber.

More ways to improve your overall well-being:
– Get enough sleep: It is very important to get enough sleep, failing to do so will stress out your body and decrease your energy. This will lead to unnecessary snacking and weight gain.
– Exercise: Exercise is always good to maintain healthy living. You can take a brisk daily walk or if you live in a harsh climate take advantage of local gyms. You can even purchase some exercise equipment of your own and exercise for about 20 minutes 3 times a week.
– Drink lots of water-8 glasses per day. This will help your body flush out toxins and also maintain your overall well-being. Water is very good for all parts of your body and is a good alternative to soda and sweet drinks.
– Be moderate in eating and exercising. Exercising is good but do not go overboard and over exercise this will put undue strain on your body and will not help you. It is good to exercise under supervision initially then carry on by yourself. Overeating is extremely bad for your system and will lead to weight gain. Try to eat in moderation so that you can avoid abusing your system.

With these few points you can enjoy a healthy living style and live your life to the fullest. When you have an overall good physical condition you can do more and live a happy full life.

really really simple healthy and quick recipes?
I don’t even know where to start. I mostly lived off junk food. I now realize how bad it is and want to change. The healthy food to make at home seems so overwhelming in cookbooks and too much time and complicated for a person that never cooked.

I like to take bay steps. Any suggestions? also for snacks too?

Oh you dear! It seems that you do have access to a computer. If you can think of a food you would like to prepare, all you have to do is type that food into the search bar, hit enter and you will find so many links for different sources. For instance, if you wish to make a chocolate cake, just type in chocolate cake recipes, and click enter, and you will find more recipes than you can read! Do you realize that there are so many recipes at your finger tips?
Try it. I do this all the time. Happy cooking.

And here’s one that requires no recipe. It can be a meal or a snack: quesidilla’s
Put cheese and other fillings (canned beans, cooked meat or veggies) on a tortilla. Top with another tortilla. Warm it in a skillet. Turn once. Enjoy!

You should check out some of the links on this website, that always helps me.

Healthy and easy snacks you can make are things like a low fat or non-fat yogurt, with fresh or frozen berries, and top with some oatmeal (granola usually has a lot of fat added to it in the baking process, just fyi, and that adds to the total calories of your snack). Light string cheese is a great snack to grab when you are in a hurry, or wheat thins with laughing cow light cheese (my favorite is the garlic and herb one). Try to look for whole grains, light dairy products (that are packed with even more protein per serving than one ounce of meat- 8 compared to 7 grams of protein), which will keep you feeling fuller, longer, and with less overall calories and fat!

I also like to buy those steamfresh bags that they sell in the stores now, either in family size or single serving, that you just pop in the microwave…throw a tilapia or salmon filet on a skillet with a drizzle of olive oil and your favorite seasonings (about 3-4 minutes on each side while on med to med-high heat), and add a baked sweet potato or make your own sweet pot fries. All you have to do for that is add a sprinkle of olive oil again (good oil for you, while still eating it in moderation), some salt and pepper and bake at 350 for about 15-20 minutes (until soft and starting to brown, but before burning).

    Hope this helps.

One of the things I love about chili is that it is fun to eat. You have the choice of so many toppings and it is very filling. Check out this link for toppings ideas.

You can also freeze leftovers for future meals which makes it real easy when you do not have time to cook.

    Enjoy!

    make some yummy bread:

    Easy Banana Bread Recipe
This easy banana bread recipe is one of the fastest banana bread recipes you’ll ever find, because it starts with a cake mix. But it tastes 100% homemade. The streusel topping really makes this banana bread recipe terrific.
    Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes
    Ingredients:
    2 large eggs
1/2 cup sour cream (non-fat is okay)
    3 large bananas
    18.25 oz. spice cake mix
    2 Tbsp. butter
    2 Tbsp. brown sugar
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1/2 cup walnuts
    Preparation:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.

With an electric mixer, beat eggs, sour cream and bananas until smooth.

Add cake mix and beat until blended, but do not overmix.

Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.

Place remaining ingredients in the work bowl of a food processor fitted with a metal blade. Pulse 6 to 8 times until combined. Do not overprocess; you still want to see the chopped walnuts.

Sprinkle topping evenly over batter in loaf pan, pressing down lightly with your fingers.

Bake on the middle rack for 1 hour to 1 hour, 10 minutes or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Let banana bread cool 10 minutes in pan. Lift out with a large spatula and let cool another 10 minutes before slicing.
Serve banana bread warm or at room temperature with a tall glass of cold milk.
