Recently my mom experienced swelling on her hands and her feet (around the toes) and she also felt pain in her shoulder. I thought it was just a sore from working but then she complained about the pain everyday, and eventually went to the hospital.
The Doctor said it was Rheumatoid Arthritis on the starting phase. He advised that we take a drug and this particular drug, my mom has to take for the rest of her life. I looked up Rheumatoid Arthritis and found out that it was incurable but that certain diets may help it. Should we take the drug? Or can we take an alternative option?
What is with the "we" bit? It’s your mom’s disease, and her pain. Rheumatoid arthritis is incurable, and yes- it can be helped with diet and medications for the pain and inflammation. If the medication helps her feel more comfortable, then she should take it. It’s up to her to decide that, really. There is nothing wrong with following a diet to help things, nor using other therapies to help make yourself more comfortable. Herbal preps are not usually very helpful for the inflammation process, but as long as she lets the doctor know what she is taking in terms of that, it’s possible to get benefit from a combination of things and the doctor can let her know what is safe with what. But honestly, there is no benefit from rejecting either traditional medicines or alternative therapies. She needs to figure out what helps, and what doesn’t, and stick with what helps most. Diet alone isn’t the answer, nor are only herbal remedies. Try a combo of them all.
