With any weight loss diet, vegetarian or not, the first rule is to eat a healthy, balanced diet. I suggest you find a vegetarian food pyramid and buy some vegetarian cookbooks and start planning healthy, balanced meals around the food pyramid.
Eat a low-fat, whole-foods diet. Whole foods are foods that are not processed. Whole foods do not contain food chemicals and are usually not pre-packaged. White rice, white flour and sugar are examples of processed foods.
Eliminate soda pop, sports drinks, energy drinks, coffee, alcohol, junk food and sugar from your diet. Start drinking lots of water. Your liver is the primary organ in charge of weight loss. Your liver cannot process body fat if you don’t drink lots of water. You should have a minimum of 3 liters of water per day.
Watch you fat intake. Cook with very little oil, butter, margarine and shortening. Limit fatty foods like nuts, seeds, avocados, dairy and eggs. Limit your intake of fruit juice (fruit juice is high in sugar). You can, however, eat as much fresh fruit as you like. Same with vegetables.
For exercise, you should start walking. Studies have shown that walking is much better for weight loss than cardio. Try to get about an hour per day of walking. Reduce your caloric intake.
