I am trying to lose weigh. I have diabetes type 2 and eating low carbs. If I am trying to lose weight and want to know if I can eat refried beans or black beans or any type of bean on a low-carb wheat tortilla.
The beans are packed with carbs and that is what worries me – whether I can eat them or not. The tortilla has 14 grams of fiber and 1 gram of sugar. Oh yes, and 5 grams of carbs.
I am trying to stay away from meat for a short period. I need something to eat where I can lose weight and all I hear is that the Arkins Diet is no good. Fruit has sugar and carbs so I am terrified to eat any fruit other than no sugar added peaches in a can.
If I eat carbs I gain weight over night. I tried brown rice and within three days I gained seven pounds from the carbs in the rice. I was eating maybe 2-3 cups a day.
I need suggestions on what kind of beans I can eat in a tortilla. Thank you.
If I recall, kidney beans and chickpeas are the ones with the lowest glycemic index (which is what we diabetics should stick with). Make sure that is a whole grain tortilla, too. Refined carbs are exactly what you want to avoid. Remove the refined carbs and put in their place fruits with high potassium content. V8 juice (low sodium, of course) is one of the richest sources of potassium which THE LACK OF has been shown to be a contributor of type two diabetes. Since adopting this basic premise, I’ve lost over 50 pounds and quit taking Metformin over two weeks ago. My average (that’s average fasting AND post prandial) since then, has been 90mg/dl. Yes, that’s right… I eat around 500 to 600 calories worth of fruit a day and my sugar has gone down… not up, as expected. See for yourself: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/DailyLog.html
I just re-read your details…. you desperately need to educate yourself on the various TYPES of carbs and sugars. I bought into that crap about limiting fruits too… that’s what was keeping me on the Metformin. Even with a healthy diet and plenty of exercise. Since divorcing myself from that nonsense, and eating plenty of raw fruits, the numbers went in the right direction, and my blood sugar stabilized at normal levels. It really works. Also, caffeine has be shown in some people to cause damage in the beta cells of the pancreas, so you might want to avoid coffee and tea.
